Creative License
Television Specials on PBS stations in Tennessee and Kentucky.
Creative License is a series of 30 minute television shows about the arts, artists, and art education across Tennessee.
Told in magazine style format, this program features stories about the unique people and personalities who create the arts. We focus greatly on
how art changes the lives of people - those who create it and those whom it inspires.
The show is produced by The Renaissance Center in partnership with the Tennessee Arts Commission, an agency dedicated
to advocating and encouraging the sharing of visual and performance arts around the state. “These inspiring stories reflect the amazing talent that
comprises the cultural landscape of Tennessee, and illustrates how the arts are changing lives in our communities,” says Anne Pope, executive
director of the Tennessee Arts Commission. “With a focus on the human element, the show reveals how the arts have impacted the lives of individual
artists and the lives of others.”
Creative License is produced with the belief that the arts in Tennessee should be shared with everyone. No one has to be an
arts advocate or enthusiast to enjoy and appreciate the creative people featured in every program. These are engaging, entertaining, and educational
stories appropriate for family viewing.
In addition to Creative License, The Renaissance Center's Media Department (TRC Media) also produces Tennessee’s Wild
Side, an Emmy award-winning outdoor adventure and environmental education show that airs on PBS stations in Tennessee and
Kentucky. TRC Media has also produced special programs for PBS viewers such as Underage and Under the Influence:
The Blake McMeans Story, Three Dog Night Live, The Statler Brothers Farewell Concert, and several
Civil War documentaries, including Hallowed Ground, The Battle of Johnsonville, Civil War
Songs & Stories, and Shiloh-The Devil’s Own Day. The TRC Media team is comprised of producers, writers,
photojournalists and editors with Emmy and Peabody Award winning credentials.
