Creative License is a series of one-hour specials about the arts, artists, and art education across Tennessee. Told in magazine style format, this program features stories about the unique people and personalities who create the arts. We focus greatly on how art changes the lives of people - those who create it and those whom it inspires.
Creative License is produced by TRC Media, in partnership with the Tennessee Arts Commission. TRC Media is the television production arm of The Renaissance Center, a non-profit education facility dedicated to the fine arts and music.
The Tennessee Arts Commission is an agency dedicated to advocating and encouraging the sharing of visual and performance arts around the state. This program dovetails perfectly with the organization’s mission. “These incredible stories focus on the human element, and how the arts have made a difference in the lives of the individuals featured in the stories,” says Rich Boyd, executive director of the Tennessee Arts Commission. “In some cases, the arts move lives forward in a more positive direction, and in every case the arts bring value to the lives of those people.”
TRC Media is also producer of Tennessee’s Wild Side and other specials on PBS stations, such as Underage and Under the Influence: The Blake McMeans Story, Three Dog Night Live, The Statler Brothers Farewell Concert, and Hallowed Ground, a documentary about commercial infringement on Civil War battlefields. The TRC Media team is comprised of producers, writers, photojournalists and editors with Emmy and Peabody Award winning credentials.
Creative License is produced with the belief that the arts in Tennessee should be shared with everyone. No one has to be an arts advocate or enthusiast to enjoy and appreciate the creative people featured in every program. These are engaging, entertaining, and educational stories appropriate for family viewing.
